Try unchecking secure password authentication, on the server tab in OE.

I haven't even bothered to check mine Ray, but they said a long time ago everyone would get a Virgin Media address. Are you sure that when he set up your account again, he didn't change the last bit. It could be that your address is now:
whatever.pop3.virginmedia.net
Or something similar to that.
I will try and check into my NTL account in a minute and see what happens. I don't use OE, but at least I might find out if there's any change to the address.

I think Roz has probably hit it on the head, you shouldn't have a secure password authenticated.

Well I logged into my NTL account without much trouble. Everything is the same, except you have to change the thing to say which account you are using: @ntlworld.com, @blueyonder.co.uk, or whatever. There was a notice to say people with a Blue Yonder account, couldn't use an alias and had to use their original address. I could have sent everything to my Hotmail account but I couldn't be bothered. I only get email from Virgin anyway, nobody else sends anything to that address. So using OE shouldn't be classed as an alias, but with Virgin who knows. I think its more likely to be that tick in the authentic password box.

Personally, I avoid email addys that come with another paid service. If you stop the service you lose the address.

As its only Virgin who has cable, I'm not likely to be changing to a copper wire service. I have never bothered with it as its POP3. If someone sends me their holiday snaps, I don't want to be opening 79 attachments, when I can see them with the scroll wheel on web-mail. They are now coming up with a lot of useful extras; free for people with the large packages, to try and warrant their high prices. We haven't got 50 Mb connection in our area yet, they are still charging me the XXL prices for XL service. Yet I don't get the extras that XXL users get. They don't look after their long time clients, although I wasn't with them until they took over NTL.

Agreed re the way they treat long term users - everything seems aimed at getting new customers.

Is it possible to log into your virgin account, and set up a new email address, then download thunderbird and set it up through that, or am i missing something here?

It says you can't use an alias, so perhaps it treats OE as an alias as well. Cant see a lot of sense in using either Virgin mail or OE myself. I would rather delouse my email while its on someone elses server, than import it unwashed onto mine.

Try writing a nice letter to the Head of Customer Service asking that they sort this, as it is one of the main reasons you have Virgin and if you cannot use the email and BB properly you might as well be with another company. Please let us know of any outcomes.

The main reason to be on Virgin. is they are the only one with cable. The mailbox has always been useless, thats why I have never bothered with it. You can get a decent Webmail box for free anyway. If you dont start using it, people wont send you messages. It was only because of this string that I even bothered to check out the Virgin website. I dont have anything to do with Virgin, except to check the enormous amount they take out of my bank acount each month.
