It would help to know if you are having problems and just what the problem is. As far as the log goes, that "Advanced Search Bar" looks a bit sus to me, but don't do anything until someone else like Mikkh has a look and confirms my suspicions. It also looks like you have the whole gambit of Google on your computer. You do know that Google now knows your every internet move dontcha ?

Oh dear, what a mass of security and memory hogging programs you have there

This is my personal opinion....

AVG8 and ZoneAlarm are the worst possible combination for killing your PC - resource wise

Spybot search and destroy is all but useless, TuneUp is also using too much processing time and helping very little

Just noticed ad-aware too, another poor piece of software IMO

You have SuperAntiSpyware which makes ad-aware and spybot redundant - it's a much superior program, so do yourself a favour and remove both ad-aware and spybot. I'm also not happy with google toolbar on any of my machines - or google anything really. I like the search engine, but the rest they can keep.

I'm also wondering why you have several programs installed on F drive, instead of C.

To be honest, I'd be wanting to reformat that lot ASAP. There's no obvious nasties I can see, but your PC must be groaning under the weight of all those programs.

Consider buying a router if you don't already have one. It's a much better firewall solution and doesn't use any CPU time (well none you'd notice anyway) If you already have a router, please don't use a software firewall as well - there's no point. You can switch the built in XP one on if you like to stop the security centre whinging and it is as least a well behaved little program

AVG8 is a monster out of control, compared to earlier versions - and it's not even that good at protecting you either judging by the viruses I remove from PC's with AVG8 installed. Avast is a better option.

I've maybe laid that on a bit thick, but I bet your PC is only running at 50% of it's true speed because of all that bloat

I think you summed that up nicely Mikkh. Too many anti this, anti that, to be of much use. and way too much "bloat".

As a result of this post, and a mate who is trying to get rid of F-secure and all it's little hangers on, I had him run a HijackThis scan to see if there are any leftovers in that, and there was. I havn't received his log yet, but I did run a scan on my new computer and found heaps of "file missing" entries, which I can't get rid of.

I'd delete these for a start

And I doubt if 'samsung panel manager' does anything useful - depends if you fiddle with your monitor settings a lot, but I would delete that too

CTFMON is part of the rubbish M$Office installs, you need to turn off advanced text services to get rid of it properly. Deleting the entry (above) doesn't help usually, as it will reappear

The missing file entries? looks like one of the joys of using a 64 bit system, or more accurately a hybrid 32/64 bit system

Not having the need for bucket loads of RAM, I've mostly avoided 64 bit OS's myself, and probably Ken (old viking) is a better person to ask. Could be a just a quirk of hijackthis not recognising a 64 bit system correctly? It does say 2003 at the top, so maybe it thinks it's a server version you're running

An awful lot of services there, although a few are normal system services that shouldn't be showing and only are because of the 'file missing' bit

I totally agree with Mikk there. ZoneAlarm is nothing but a hog! I used to have it installed. Every time I boot my computer up it takes ages to load the desktop. AVG8 you can say goodbye to. Yet again it is useless. I have Avast Home Edition and it hardly uses the memory.

I was a bit worried about deleting any of the ATI stuff since installing the two graphics cards, but i'll give it a go and see what it does if anything.

The Quick Time stuff installed before I could stop it and as I have the latest K-Lite Mega-codecs pack and the Q/T alternative, it can go

The samsung stuff is the CLP300 colour laser printer management panel and not a monitor. I have a Dell and a BenQ but no Samsung. That's on the workbench....hehehehe

Running a 64 bit OS is not all it should be either. I'm thinking seriously of a re-install with all the new stuff in place. I have most of the x64 drivers in a folder, so it won't be too much of a problem to do. Thanks for your input anyway dude ! It has helped.

I deleted those three entries Mikkh, and all is well. Also, Roz suggested getting rid of "Bonjour" which installs itself with Adobe software. She provided a link to a forum article that shows how to get rid of it properly. That was a feat in itself delving into the registry etc, but the computer is starting up at least a minute faster than before.

KC seems to think the "file missing" entries are startup items that I have disabled in "msconfig", and I tend to agree with him there.

Yes I forgot about the bonjour service, it's part of Apples software, rather than Adobe though - a good reason not to install iTunes in fact
It's considered legal spyware, if such a thing exists!

Bonjour services is installed with any of Adobe's Creative Suite components too Mikkh, which I think is absolutely shocking considering the cost of the software.

Mine came courtesy of Adobe's Photoshop CS3 Master collection. It's gone now, and the computer is happier for it too.
