Around Christmas someone (who will remain nameless) spilled some coffee on my printer and knackered it.
I went to Comet today and bought a new cheap one a Cannon MP272. As I was looking at what was on offer an assistant came up and offered to help.
I asked him what was better with one over another printer and his answer was "Well this one, apart from being better looks nicer". He then went on to tell me that I would have to the Cables seperately and also buy the Inks it then turned out that they didn't have any of the Inks I needed so I went to Curry's. They used to sell these things complete at one time.
I wonder if they get any training for that sort of advice.

You already made the first classic mistake - cheap printer = expensive ink
If the assistant is clued up enough (doubtful), you should be asking how much it costs to run.
Modern printers are all much the same quality wise, so the only important factor IMO, is finding out how much it costs to run and as shop assistants generally aren't that helpful, it's up to you to do a bit of research before you buy.
Never buy a lead from them either, they're freely available in most "Poundland" type shops - for a pound obviously

Am assistant in PC World in Bournemouth informed a friend who wanted to buy a laser printer and asked for a demo that they were not allowed to demo them as they used too much ink !!!
Just box shifters with no knowledge of what they are selling

That sounds like a rip-off to me Rog. No ink tanks indeed? I reckon they take then out before selling them personally.
Every printer sold here has the ink tanks included, although they may not be full. You do need to buy a USB printer cable in most instances though.
Every Canon printer I have purchased, including the model you mentioned, had the ink tanks with them. Sound like a bunch of crooks to me.

Even my laser that I bought from Argos had some toner in and in fact printed loads before I had to replace it.

Kev / All
Sorry. I wasn't very clear in that Post.
It was Comet we went to but due to the bad treatment we ended up buying from Curry's. The deal I got there included the Inks but it was Comet who who were so unprofessional.

I have never seen a printer sold without ink, as Kev says they are not always filled right up. Most seem to be sold without the cable, for some reason or another. I thought I was lucky when I bought my HP all in one, it had a USB cable included. That only connects the card readers to the computer, it didn't include the RJ45 cable to connect the printer and scanner to the router.
