My 3rd virus

Just had my 3rd virus in 14 years.

Gen-Koobface. SuperAntiSpyware got it.

Is it gone?

Any ideas where I might have got it from?

Is it a problem, ie any known damage?

Is it likely it send out any information?

Is it the reason proboards, several sites, are so slow?

Is it gone? Probably, maybe, could be - depends ! OK it's gone then

Where it came from? Hmm, tempted to say from the Gamma quadrant - insufficient data

Is it a problem? Not if it's gone, No

Is it likely to phone home? that would depend on it still being active - so No

The reason for slow sites? I'd say no, Proboards ain't the quickest site and most bad infections stop you surfing altogether, not just slow you down.

Yeah, well, I must have been a bit careless somewhere to get to number 3.

Never mind.

Had a search and am pleased to say, no signs of any of those files.

As for the false positives, I don't recall the exact reference for the files, but I'm pretty certain it wasn't any of those.

I'm really equal with you, but twice my daughter got me infected while 'borrowing' my PC, so I don't count those. That's when I decided to give her, her own PC

I finally got my head around ComboFix Mikkh. When all else fails, RTFI hey?

I've been using it over the last few weeks to clean up customers computers to enable me to update and run Mbam and SAS. Obviously, ComboFix isn't the whole answer, but used before those other two sure helps eradicate some of these modern day nasties.

You guys are ahead of me in the virus stakes. I've only been hit once that I can remember, and I was due to reformat my computer at that time anyway.

Well, I'm way ahead of all of you. Never had a virus. Thought I did once, but it was a false alarm. But I did a reformat anyway. LOL

Yes Kev, it's a good tool especially against the stubborn ones. Helps get control back when a format and reinstall looks the more likely option.

So that's a handful of viruses between four of us - just shows what can be done with a little forward planning and common sense.

Makes me wonder what most of my customers are up to ;o)
