I was accessing a quotations page looking for a source of a quote that I need. Anyway, as part of the search I clicked on a link in the site and a page loaded that looked like a version of My Computer. Then a box appeared, apparently Microsoft Scurity Essentials saying I have 10 virus' which include trojans. 6 in My Documents and 4 in anther file. It asked if I wanted to clean these or close the box. Clicking close I was asked if I wanted to run a file. Now I know this was false because I don't use that version of My Computer and because I don't use Microsoft Security Essentials. I have used this site before, without problem. www.quotationspage.com/ (PLEASE DON'T CLICK ON THIS UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY CONFIDENT) I suspect it is a DNS hijacker affecting that site. Any comments?

I clicked on it and something flashed briefly Jojo. I didnt even get to see what it was before SAS Pro nailed it. Cant be very serious, SAS goes of like a machine gun if it is.

Nothing with my default browser of Firefox + adblockplus - just a nice clean page Then I disabled adblockplus temporarily Firefox immediately came up with - a two pop-ups blocked warning (below) and a gaudy SKY+ banner advert One of which is probably what you saw I presume neither of you are using Firefox

The popup is an advert for a screen saver.
The problem came with an internal site link. After an unsuccessful search, it offers an option to search other sites. Presumably this is a facility within the site which access something like Google.
I've heard of this elsewhere, also on a private site, where internal links have been accessed. There, a number of users said they had been presented with a photo of some car. Though there, I had no problems. Though this one seems a lot more serious.
Afterward, I ran each of my security programs, one after the other. SAS found a number of adware, including one called flash adware. The others, nothing.
What concerned me was that the page seemed so convincing. I have mentioned two reasons why I was sceptable, a third was that the page was in the IE tabs.
I should also have said that I couldn't change tabs or close the window without CTRL Alt DEL. Even then, rather than being presented with a, Window is not responding box, I was asked if I wanted to run this supposed program.

I have discovered something odd about these Flash trackers, but I dont think it will affect many people as its caused by my odd build. I had a new Optiarc DVD burner, but it is an IDE device. The Super Beast has an Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard, which doesn't have any IDE connectors. I have installed one Optiarc SATA burner and put in an adapter to use the other IDE burner on a SATA connector. If I get a Flash tracker, I lose that converted IDE DVD burner. It took me several days to figure out what was going on and it all came down to Flash trackers. SAS updates several times a day, all I have to do is run it and find the latest Flash tracker and my DVD drive comes back on line. I doubt if any other member of this group is using an IDE to SATA converter; but if their is and you suffer strange device loss, its a Flash tracker thats causing it. Dont ask me why, as I haven't got a clue.
