I use Firefox as a browser and since yesterday (after a BT line upgrade) find that I cannot access my internet banking as I receive a message “waiting for”….. neither can I access Experian, or my savings accounts, vodafone billing etc., as it is “waiting for” then simply times out.
I have tried to access the sites switching off Comodo and tried to access the sites via IE and I still cannot. I am at a loss as to what has happened, what to check, whether Firefox has problems or Comodo – any suggestions?

Sounds like another good reason not to use BT as an ISP Von. I use Win7 x 64 and before that XP x 64, between the two OS's I have used IE 7, 8 and 9 and never had a bit of bother. I have tried Firefox and never had any trouble with that either. I use online banking all the time and have no trouble with HTTPS:// sites. I dont use a software firewall, but friends I set up computers for all have Comodo and they dont have any problems with it. We are all on cable though and I wouldn't use BT again if they strapped me down and poured acid in my eyes.

I don't know what a 'BT line upgrade' entails, but I'll assume it didn't involve any software changes? So what I'm going to suggest first may not make sense - unless you did have to install something but is worth trying anyway as I've known it work in similar situations.
Basically check you're not using a proxy server. For IE, you'll need to go into control panel/internet options and check the LAN settings don't use a proxy server. For Firefox, go to Tools/Options/ or Edit/Preferences (depending on which version you're using) and click the advanced tab at the top. More tabs should appear and you need the 'network' one. There should be a settings button to press - pick no proxy and press OK/Apply

Well, so far I have followed LR's link and cleared dll files. I have removed and reinstalled Comodo. I have removed and reinstalled Firefox. I have restored back 7 days, I have cleared my cashe, and the only work around right now is to access things via IE8 - save it to desktop - and replace my folder with a new link.
I have a gut feeling its firefox but at least I can access my online banking. I can't access numerous saved files as all I see is "waiting" and my speedcheck is the same for download but has doubled for uploads.
I can't access Experian (says waiting) so I think I'll try access on my laptop and run superantispyware on the xp.

I think your probably on the right track Mikk, banks dont trust proxy connections.
BT not connecting what a surprise. You can sit on a bus, ask for the nearest curry house and they tell you what stop to get off at.

Hi Mikkh, tried that and it was worse!
What I have done now is to uninstall and remove firefox and then downloaded it again. I can now access banking and gmail. I think its something to do with anything I try to open that is htpps (or is it https?) but Firefox does not ask me if I want to allow a particular website.
Anyhow.........
It seems with some programs I see "waiting for" and nothing happens, OR I end up with a blank page. A work round is to open them in IE, save the page to desktop and replace it with the original link. (rolls eyes)
To answer you I have not installed anything yesterday as I was aware that at some time the BT would be updating the line. I did not fiddle with anything yesterday, just accessed things as normal but I noticed things were going wrong this morning.
So - its either firefox or the BT line. I've replaced Comodo. I've replaced Firefox and I'll just have to keep check on whether or not I still have problems accessing some websites. If I do I'll try and open them using my laptop and this will prove whether or not its a BT mess up or whether my XP has thrown a wobbly. If I can locate the fault I'll report back as others may have the same problem and its no good if I can't help with the answer that solves it.

Von, I too bank online with two banks although not with any of the outfits you use.
I have never had any problems with it either in IE7 or IE8 using Maxthon or indeed Firefox with or without proxy. I therefore must concur with Ken and assume your problem lies with BT. I realise this will not necessarily answer your query other than eliminate doubts over the common ways in which to acess the internet and in particular online banking. I also have Comodo firewall installed on my laptop and my Win7 64 bit PC runs via a wireless router. which of course is shared with the laptop. I have just tried my banking facilities with both machines at the same time and the operation was flawless.

If that upgrade involved a hole in the ground and BT's shoe lace salesmen making adjustments, thats when the problem lies. I'm pretty sure its not in the computer, if there wasn't any software or change of hardware. It will probably get fixed in a month or so, once they save enough money to rent a technician for an hour or two.

One way to prove or disprove it's BT's fault is to use a Linux live CD and boot from that. It's easy for me obviously, but I don't think it's beyond the scope of anyone if you do it logically 1) download the ISO of your choice - PClinuxOS or Mint are good choices www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=10(pick the KDE version) 2) burn the image (the ISO file) to a blank CD (make sure you burn it as an image, not as data) 3) boot from it Run Firefox and see if the same problem(s) occur

I'm going to leave things for a few weeks to see if it settles down. I think its BT but at the moment I can access online banking (not Experian, I think they have a server fault) but my main concern was banking. I'll see how it goes tomorrow. I might try access on the laptop and see if I have the same problem.
Will report back later guys. Meanwhile, thank you all very much.
