I have just been looking at buying a 'carbon monoxide alarm'
Vote above if you have or don't have one.
Heather from Eastenders brought it to my attention in last night's episode....if any of you have one, any recommendations?

The only fuel burning appliances I've got are my 2 Zippo lighters and I dont think they give off enough carbon monoxide to worry about.

We have this one, when we got our it was approximately £19, but there are updated models now. We got ours a couple of years ago after something went wrong with our gas fire, and the man who fixed it also did a CB test as part of his routine. Ours was borderline OK but he said we should get an alarm and also have the chimney swept. It hadn't been swept since probably when the first gas fire was installed many years ago, and as we have cats, fur accumulates like a blanket within the chimney! So we did this and also got the alarm. I can't actually say how good at detecting it actually is because luckily it's never gone off -- presumably not needing to, but it works fine and has a tiny light which unobtrusively flashes intermittently to prove it's working OK. It also has an alarm test button similar to a smoke alarm, which is extremely loud, again similar to a smoke alarm.

I didn't think you were allowed to stuff cats up the chimney Roz. I've smoked bacon, but we used to take the hair off the pig first.

Yes all electric Lynnrose and I dont get any pressies at Christmas, as I dont have a chimney. I smoked my bacon and fish in a 40 gallon drum with the top cut out, but I lived beside a mangrove swamp then and didn't have electric either. Mangrove is very good for smoking meat, as is most fruit wood. Never tried to smoke a cat; although I did try to smoke a leopard one night, with a pump action Remington, Magnum 12 bore.

Yes, there is now Lynnrose. I think if we were to get one now I'd like it to have a visual display telling me in detail what the levels are.

Cats have got a higher metabolism than humans Roz, so if they die its time to open a window.
