... or how to get it horribly wrong Gentoo is a Linux geeks idea of heaven, but it does spawn some interesting spin offs for us lesser mortals. I tried two of them today and the differences couldn't have been greater. On one hand we have 'Toorox' with it's source based agony of installing software and it's 'libre' approach to software in general - which basically means Firefox, Sun Java and Adobe Flash are not included because they are deemed not fully open source. And if you did want them, you'd have to suffer hours of compiling the source code Then we have 'Sabayon' with a more flexible approach of binary packages and the inclusion of Firefox, Flash and Sun Java. No prizes for guessing which one is still on my hard drive ! The difference is ludicrous though, especially as they both originate from Gentoo Thumbs up to Sabayon and a big yah boo sucks to Toorox - I'd rather use pure Gentoo To compile or not to compile, that is the question whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous geekdom - or just have a usable OS
