When Prince Charles becomes King there is speculation that Camilla will be either 'Queen Consort' OR as it seems, Charles' preference to have her as "Queen Camilla" Now - bearing in mind the age aspect, if Prince Charles were to pre-decease Camilla, Prince William would become King and presumably Princess Catherine would become Queen? This begs the fascinating question where does this place Camilla in this scenario? This could be a very interesting discussion.

Hmm, Buzzy old chap, that would be as fascinating as me discussing the merits of the Linux EXT3 file system against the ageing Windows NTFS file system and where that leaves Reiser or the new fangled EXT4 :-p
It might surprise you to learn that I am a royalist, but the real question is whether Lizzy will do the decent thing and become the new Queen Mother to King Charles - as should have happened years ago or just stubbornly hang on till she dies.
I don't know the exact royal protocol, but it seems pretty obvious we're never going to be ruled by Queen Camilla - whatever the circumstances. Her place in history will be as a minor fact that future students struggle to remember IMO

Mikkh, I think the subject is fascinating insorfar as there will be a fair proportion of people who would not be in favour of Camilla becoming our queen particularly as she is at the very least seen in some quarters as a marriage breaker. The concept of Queen Elizabeth becoming "Queen mother to Charles" is something I had not thought of but nevertheless highly unlikely I would imagine.
I have a lot of admiration for Prince William and it seems Kate is a very sensible young lady who will take up her new role in life with all the seriousness it will inevitably require. At this time I think the new couple will welcome a few years under their respective belts before they are old enough to carry the tasks which will eventually become theirs.

If Her Majesty takes after her mum, she will outlive Charles. Then we might get a King Randy. On the other hand if they go ahead with the equality thing, if Charles pops his clogs we could get a Queen Ann. Then the country will become really European, if there's a string of old queens.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, who is 503rd in the line of succession through Queen Victoria's daughter, Alice of the United Kingdom
There's not a single royal in Europe who isn't related to Queen Victoria, she must have had it off with everybody. The only exception is Prince Harry and no one in the royal family is going to admit to where he came from.

I read somewhere that it's quite likely Camilla will chose to continue to be known as the "Duchess of Cornwall" even after Charles becomes King, so if that's the case then I would think she'll still want to keep the same title if he died too.
It sounds like a pretty good way to solve the thorny issue to me too.

No, that doesn't surprise me at all mikkh. You are a classic royalist. But surely the role of queen mother will go to his brother?

Its a strange system the line of succession. William is 2nd in line, but that assuming the Queen dies before Charles. If he died or became a Catholic, the line would take a side step and go to Andrew if they don't except the equality thing. If that is made law it would go to Ann. Charles cant step down in favour of William, while the Queen is alive. On the death of the Queen; he could abdicate 2 minutes later, but he has to be king to allow William to take over. Otherwise the whole of the Queens brood would have to refuse the crown, then William would take over. Who knows with that lot of inbreds, they could start another war to decide who's boss.
I dont think they would allow Camilla to become queen. The King doesn't have to have a queen consul, it just that most do. Charles will probably have a few old queens in his household without her. After all he's half Greek and wears a sailor suit at times. Camilla carries a riding crop most of the time, it makes you wonder.

I'm a royalist. I would rather have a tree hugger as King than some skinhead buning me at the stake for refusing to become a Christian. I think the Yanks have done away with burning at the stake, but a lot of them would like to bring it back. I dont want Camilla as Queen, she would hang us peasants for not riding to hounds.
