How?
I've seen all the billboard posters making silly claims like go to London for £7
I use trainline.com a lot which also claims to find these mythical cheap prices, but even booking weeks/months in advance I can't seem to find any bargains at all.
I just did a test run on 'redspottedhanky' picking Manchester as a destination and several weeks in the future Nothing, just the normal everyday prices I can get by turning up ten minutes before it's due to leave.
Is there some thing I've missed? Some trick to use that isn't obvious?
About the only time I've saved money was when I went to Leeds one day. The (obvious) route was a direct train from Nottingham to Leeds, but it certainly wasn't the cheapest. I did a bit a bit of research and found getting a cheap day return to Sheffield first, then a cheap day return from Sheffield to Leeds was much cheaper - nearly £20 cheaper
It's the same for Liverpool - get a direct train and get ripped off, or pick Manchester as a cheap day return, then Manchester to Liverpool to get it almost half price. It's even more scandalous for Liverpool because it's the same train!
