How to remove Norton?

Hi all,

My parents recently bought a laptop, which came with Norton Security installed.

They decided to uninstall the program, but now whenever the machine is booted up, this is shown...



After a long wait this screen is replaced by another, empty one. That can be closed then the machine used as normal.

I've looked in 'add/remove programs' and there's no mention of Norton. Looked in Start > Programs > Startup and there's nothing there either.

So, anyone know how I can get rid of this?

By Googling "Remove Norton" several solutions are shown it may be this is best place as it does mention 2009 and 2010 removal

There is a well established "Norton Removal Tool" from Symantec (Norton) themselves.

If its a new machine, it would be better to reinstall it without Norton. Using the removal tool stops it from working, but it would take an act of god to take all the crap out.
