A friend of mine has this software installed on her PC, recently it took several attempts for her to send me a file attachment, the file in question was almost 9MB. Every time she tried to send it Norton blocked it saying the file was too big. Eventually she disabled Norton and uploaded the file to www.yousendit.com does anyone here have experience with this software? Personally I stopped using Norton years ago and now have AVG AV and Comodo Firewall.....

The way I look at "N" is that it's like going out and buying a Ferrari, bringing it home, ripping the V12 engine out of it, and installing a Morris Minor engine. That is one of the "benefits" of "N", among other equally crappy ones. There is an uninstaller on the Symantec website to uninstall Nortons, and is really the best way to get rid of this bloated, overhyped peice of junk software.
AVG is getting to be a similar type of thing now days with it's bloated security suite. It's nothing like it used to be when version 7.5 was the rage That was the last time it was a standalone A/V program. Now they have added all the other garbage to it, it's also slowing computers down. McAfee and Trend Micro are almost as bad as the big "N", and I try and talk my customers out of buying them.
Most of us now use Avast A/V, as it's very light on resources, updates every day, and does a very good job of blocking most viruses. Your choice of Comodo firewall was a good one. I don't think there are many out there as good.
The best security software for your home PC is all FREE. It consists of Avast A/V, MalwareBytes Anti-malware, SuperAntispyware, SpywareBlaster, and if you need a firewall, Comodo. With those installed, you should have a trouble free run out of your computer if you do regular updates and scans with the extra programs. (SAS,Mbam,&SpywareBlaster)

Last time I tried Avast it was choking my download speeds. With Avast installed my download speed was well below 10M uninstalling it and going back to AVG Free my speeds went back up to the 50M or thereabouts I expect.

That's the first time i've heard that one ... lol If Avast affected my download speed, it would have been given the flick instantly, but it hasn't. I tend to agree with KC that AVG would have been more likely to cause that sort of problem, so to prove a point, I experimented.
I've just done a download speed check on one of my newly built stock computers, with no A/V program or any other security installed. I then installed AVG and ran a download speed test using it, and it was a little slower, but not much. I then uninstalled AVG using "Your Uninstaller" which gets rid of everything associated with the program, registry entries included, and installed Avast.
I ran the download speed test once again, and it was the same speed as the unprotected machine was. This all took place in less than an hour, so I don't think it was influenced by other factors like too many users, or slow time of day. The downloaded file (300mb) was the exact same file each time, which was also deleted after each download.
I'll still back Avast against AVG anyday, sorry!

Prior to installing Avast AVG was 100% removed! the problem was most noticeable downloading from Newsgroups where normally with AVG installed I can set multiple simultaneous connections to the server, under Avast this option was greyed out so I could only download slowly. For the record I used Revo Uninstaller which does a thorough registry scan.

Frankly I've always used AVG, right from version 5.08 in 2000. I'm now on v.2011, which as Kev says is the full monty of bits and bobs; however that said, you have to remember that most of the add-ons can be turned off or on at will - with some nadgering from the programme - so it isn't all doom and gloom. I just use the basic AV function, plus the email scanning option, and find it doesn't impair anything, either conflict or speed wise; as long as I update it once a week or so, no problem at all.
