H! Jj,
Are you using Windows or Linux? in windows it should give you Express Install and/or a Custom Install if so go for the custom install and you can decided what too install, in Linux just click on the padlock and you can decided what to install.

Thanks Elvis, its Linux Mint, and only two days old. am loving it so far, just not sure what to do with the updates or anything else for that matter. Though it works brilliantly for the kind of stuff I do on the 'net. I cant beleive i dnt need an antivirus, but I was wondering about the firewall thats on there and not set up yet. so many questions to be asked. can I just leave the updates till i know what im doing?

Just leave them if you like, but it's only a five minute job - despite the seemingly high number involved
Linux programs are rarely very big, unless it's something like OpenOffice, which is very much the exception to the rule
You can safely leave them though.
I never bother with the firewall myself because I use the routers built in one
It has a basic level of security without the firewall anyway

Thanks Mikkh, I am connected to a router by wire, so is that ok? the more i read about linux, and use it, the more suprised I am at the amount of people using windows.
