My front garden resembles a ski slope - two lots of eight steps, plus two concrete slopes is the journey I have to take from street level up to my front door, so you can imagine how steep the garden is.
It's all grass and this time of year I get my trusty little hover mower out every two or three weeks so it doesn't become a much harder job.
There I am doing my death defying balancing act, when the dustbin men arrive (and yes I have to take the bin to street level every fortnight) One of them makes a comment about that looks like hard work and I said, well I used to be a dustbin man for a while when I was younger and I definitely prefer this to what you're doing.
Yes he says, and it must have been much harder when you did it too !
Cheeky sod! What he meant was, I was doing it in the pre-wheelie bin days
I wouldn't have minded but he wasn't exactly a youngster himself - mid to late 30's I'd guess. And to add insult to injury, I wasn't sporting several days of stubble as I'm apt to do and which does put years on me. No, I had a shave last night and was looking as young as I can for an old git
No Christmas tip for them this year then

No it's old, I was gutted when I reached 30, not bothered at 40 and couldn't give a **** at 50 Now I'm just growing old(er) disgracefully ! I'm 51 now and I can still run faster than my 12 year old and all her friends

No, nothing like that anyway - that's one lucky boy I reckon, nine out of ten binmen would have lamped him one. Did you notice him telling his mate what happened at the end of the video, and his mates reaction?
I started just before Christmas and was amazed at how many tips and bottles of whisky etc were being offered me. I did the decent thing and just handed them all over to the driver, and speaking to him at tea break, he said it was a bad year when they didn't make at least two grand each in tips.
I got 'promoted' or was it demoted, to road sweeper shortly after that and while there were no xmas tips for us, we did find money on a regular basis. I even found a gold ring one day

Old isn't is necessarily bad - it should signify wisdom and experience
Old doesn't mean worn out and past it - not unless you stop trying
Old is being comfortable with who you are and not trying to impress your peers
In my original post, I meant he was old enough to know better. If he was younger I would have just put it down to lack of experience (of life) - that's what I meant.
When you're young, you just haven't lived (literally) and the silly insecurities that seem like the end of the world just pale into insignificance when you're older
Old is good ;o)

I seem to have missed the wisdom and experience bit. I dont have to impress my peers, most of them are dead and them that's not should be.
One of the best parties I ever went to, was when I showed up at my own wake. I dont know who was more surprised, the morners or me. I was surprised at how many people had turned out for it. That taught them not to believe everything thats written in the papers.
