Puppy has always had lots of custom versions, but all based from the main (Barry Kauler's) Puppy version.
Barry left to start a new project called Quirky, leaving the rest of the old team to continue with Puppy.
The new Puppy 5 is now based on Ubuntu and Quirky is essentially Puppy without Ubuntu - as it always used to be.
The good news is that Puppy 5, despite the Ubuntu influence, retains a lot of the Puppy we all know and love and Quirky is even better - and not quirky at all!
So it's two for the price of one basically with two new releases to try
I'm getting sick of all the Ubuntu hype myself and pretty saddened to see Puppy jump on the bandwagon, so Quirky will definitely get more of my attention than Puppy, but that's a personal choice.
At just over 100 MB each, neither is going to take long to download, so why not try both?
