The final release is due before the end of the month according to the forum, so unless you're the impatient type I'd wait for that - and it's based on the recent Ubuntu 10.04
Talking of which, I downloaded it the other day - disappointing for newcomers with no flash or java installed by default I really am at a loss why it's so popular (Ubuntu that is) because it's deliberately crippled for immediate use.
Luckily that's where Mint comes in, it takes the base Ubuntu, makes it prettier and adds all the things they crippled.
"mint4win" (the ability to install it inside a Windows folder) is back apparently, but there are conflicting reports as to whether it works correctly or not.

H! Mikkh,
I did try Ubuntu gave it 2 months then you side about Mint so i tried it and i like it much better then Ubuntu and i have never look back
I will not down load mint till the RC finish.
"mint4win" (the ability to install it inside a Windows folder) is back apparently," as for this it is a good idea but i will not use it if i want a fill i can always drag it from W7 onto Linux and i have my own partitions set up anyway so i don't see the point.

I decided to download it anyway - more to test the mint4win than anything else. I have a spare Linux partition, but with Mepis already installed I have no desire to have 2 Debian based distros permanently on my hard drive, so the mint4win option looked a valid option for me.
The difference between Ubuntu and Mint is so huge, it looks and feels like a different OS
No stupid default (to Gnome) top taskbar, all multimedia components except Sun Java already installed
Looks good so far
