I have an IDE and SATA HDs and the system defaults to IDE on boot up and the BIOS will not let me change to SATA where I have Ubuntu and Mepis. I want to boot automatically to Ubuntu so, how do I force the system to boot form SATA drive?
Many thanks, Alex

Which bootloder are you using?
Ubuntu should pick up both Mepis and Windows easily enough, so it should be an easy task just to make Ubuntu the default OS to boot - regardless of which drive the OS's are on.
Which was the last one to be installed?

Which was the last one to be installed? The last one was Ubuntu. It is the default one on the SATA HD, but the system defaults to IDE HD where I have Windows, so Windows loads if I do not press F8 and then select the correc drive. The problem is that if I am not quick enough it starts Windows. Thanks, Alex

Sounds like you installed the bootloader to the wrong drive then, it should have been installed to the MBR on the first drive (the IDE one) to gain access to all three systems.
There isn't a simple solution, but your options are....
Remove the IDE drive - not very practical, if you want to use Windows occasionally
Install Ubuntu again, and put the bootloader on the correct drive this time
Install Xandros (making sure you put the bootloader on the IDE drive) because it will pick up any Linux or Windows OS. Of course that means installing another Linux you might not use, but it can be installed in a 5 GB partition with ease, and has a repair option to easily reconstruct the bootloader.
reinstall Ubuntu looks your best bet
