I have a server which until my hard drive crashed would have an icon sitting on the bar at the top of the screen, next to the loudspeaker and ethernet icons, waiting to be clicked.
That drive has gone to the great mobo in the sky.
The new drive is in but the screen is a bit empty on the top (a bit like me!)
There are no passwords. I can go to places>connect to server>Windows share, and type in 192.168.1.7 on the "port" and hey presto.
Me being lazy, (and Julie not knowing how to do the above), how do I get my little "server" icon back?
i.e. how can I get Karmic to mount the server on startup?

I don't know anything about Linux, but have you tried right-clicking an empty space on the right side of your taskbar, click properties, Customize button and make sure your Server icon is set to 'Always Show.'
I don't know if Linux offers this method though. Let us know what happens

Or you can try clicking on your task bar at the bottom of your screen left click if you use your right hand and Add to Panel this works in Linux Mint

It has been so long since I started this thread, my apologies for not responding earlier (illness). One of the upgrades seems to have sorted it - goodness knows which one - there were loads waiting for me when I got back. Anyway, it works now, so I can get my spreadsheet to sort the tax man out in the nick of time....
