It seems like such a nice program, potentially, so useful, when you need it and free.
But it does seem a little too good to be true.
Have Mikkh and ken gone off to watch YouTube or something. Would have thought either of them would have known something about it.
Incidently, I think Lynnrose is being somewhat modest. I've read a lot of her stuff and besides her knowledge of computers, her ability to maintain control here is quite something.

Hey Jojo, thanks for that, but it's easy because everyone here are such nice people!

I have downloaded it and installed and given it a trial, Its a full version which requires you to purchase if you need to use it in anger
Yes it appears to do verything it says except that with the free trial you can only recover very small files. (max 32k)
Larger files require you to buy the licence for 1 PC at $69.95 so its not much use for photos etc.

Ah, thanks comp'.
I personally, like to have things like this incase I need them, but rarely do.
My main concern was that this wasn't some sort of con, or perhaps spyware.
Thank you for downloading and trying it. I did myself and it's still on my comouter, but haven't really got anything to use it on.
But one point. If the program claims to recover damaged BOOT files, how will you BOOT the computer to use it?

I should imagine it's got a bootable media option - i.e make a bootable CD, which is how most of these type of utilities work. There are several really free options like this one anyway www.pcinspector.de/default.htm?language=1.... and no I don't 'youtube' :-p and yes Lynnrose is a modest little sweetheart

I had never heard of it until now Jojo. I think I am pretty good on recovery stuff, I don't think I need to try out anything else. If it seems too good to be true, its probably right. The full version will almost certainly have a bootable CD, which is the most important part. I suspect they are just giving you a taste to wet your appetite. I haven't got into YouTube yet, although its something I'm thinking about.

I cannot see anything about a bootable CD option, Most things it recovers from are external drives, Camera cards of various forms, USB Memory sticks. If you have a drive with a faulty boot sector then you need to able to remove it and connect to a working PC, which I do with an adapter kit which plugs into a USB connection.
The program can be installed on a USB memory stick so pluggable into any PC with a problem
The instructions for use are held on the download web site and seem fairly comprehensive, (would have been more useful if in .pdf downloadable form)
It does say you shouldn't instal the program on a drive from which you want to recover files (elementry really as it would overwrite possibly files you want to find)
I might invest in a full copy if I find I have to do data recovery for someone. I get some PCs where the hard drive is so full the PC stops working or won't boot at all because of damaged boot sector, this I have recovered in some cases by removing drive , connect via my adapter to my PC then run a Chkdsk (last 1 took 3.5 hours to run but it recovered the faults)

Thank you Lynnrose, Comp', Mikkh and Ken.
It seems most of the regulars on CIT are having a trouble free time lately, things have been quite quiet.
Hope the shaking from your slumbers hasn't made you grumpy.
