I have a Canon MP500 all in one. After about a year I started experiencing problems. The scanner stopped working and I have become unable to print anything off the computer. The printer will work from a memory card only. A previous Lexmark printer left something (lexbces) on the computer which I kept till the problems started.I tried to purge it off but failed after a long process.I have since done endless re-installs, driver downloads but to no avail.I have got various error messages in that time. The latest being USB faults.Tests indicate there are no faults with the MP500 but I still can't get it back.Any help would be appreciated.

USB fault could be the lead or the port itself.
It's worth trying a different lead - you can get them in most 'poundland' type shops and also trying different USB ports - use the rear ports, not front or USB hubs
If you can try it on another PC, that would confirm whether it's still in full working order
It might just be broken/faulty, in which case buying a new one may be your only option.
.... and you should be able to remove the old lexmark stuff in msconfig

Thanks for the reply mikkh.I have tried different leads and different USB ports. Not really able to try another PC.A bit reluctant to replace the printer as tests seem to suggest all is working. Are these system tests reliable?

Have you checked Printers in the Control Panel, it could be the Lexmark is still listed as the default printer instead of the Canon. Or if you have Office installed , it might have Windows document printer as the default and that is looking for the Lexmark instead of the Canon. If its the Windows document printer as default; Lexmark might not even show, but thats whats possibly going on.

Better late than never Just to let you know the USB ports were faulty and after a re-install everything is back up and running.

Good, a fresh install of Windows does work wonders for a multitude of sins, but a lot of people would rather jump in a lions cage than consider doing it for some reason. If you investigate disk cloning, you can save yourself hours of work in the future
Only do it on a freshly installed Windows though because cloning an old copy of Avast, Firefox, SAS etc is counter productive and you'll spend just as much time updating them as you would installing from scratch
