Over the years I have used many different programs. At the moment I am just on the free version of AVG. But is there anything out there better for financial internet use? I have no objection to paying for software if its worth while.

Yes, Linux, free and easy to use, and not bothered by the bad stuff out there.
Sorry was just being a little show off.
Theres many things that are as good. AVG if using version 8, if u havent got at least 2gig of ram, dump it and get avast or avira.
Firewall, Zone alarm, but i think theres aan even better one less resource hog, but name escapes me for now.
Spyware, SuperAntiSpyware,
Malware, MalwareBytes, brilliant little program
Oh and last of all, SpywareBlaster a must for not letting the bad stuff get at your browser.
Ps: all freeware

Showing off or not, I agree - there's nothing better for stopping Windows nasties, than not using Windows!
Linux is free, can be run 'live' (just boot from it and use it) which also means no data of any sort is saved. A totally clean system on every boot that can't be affected by Windows based threats - what could be better ?
I do all my online transactions etc in Linux

You can run Linux Mint in the same partition as Windows without any problems, you just select which you want to run at bootup Graham
