As activeX is part of IE, the simple solution is not to use IE, till it's fixed
Use a different browser, you might actually get to like it !
Unless you're ultra paranoid, this 'vulnerability' is very unlikely to be exploited on a home PC - why would someone go to that much trouble? Microsoft will eventually patch it anyway, and non IE users like me, will be refusing yet another 'critical update' because it doesn't apply to them.
If you can't wean yourself off IE, don't give yourself sleepless nights over this, it's more likely for Gordon Brown to resign, than for it to affect the average home user

I think they invent faults, then they look good when they fix them 2 weeks later. If there is a flaw in the system; surely it would be better to fix it before telling every would be cracker that its there. If they were really clever, they would have found it years ago when they invented it. The trouble is, they are the only industry that can sell faulty products and get away with it. Try selling a car as a new product with a piston missing, yet they sell Windows half built. XP is the best system they have ever made, yet they had to more than double its size to make it work properly after it was released. Its a good job Bill Gates had a bit of a conscience, they were going to sell SP2 as a new system.
