When I was on the laptop the other night with the tv on in the background, I'm not sure what the programme was called but the voice said "here is a tip for Windows Vista users". Windows Vista especially on laptops have the power button setting at sleep, even though you click to shutdown it puts your laptop to sleep. Help and hints to change this are on the link below. Now I would never have known that.... tut tut Vista [my good deed for the day and hope it is on the right message board] www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/change-the-windows-vista-power-buttons-to-shut-down/

A very good tip Eileen, my Windows 7 went to high perfomance directly I had finished installing it. I have been playing with it since it first came out in BETA though and have learned a few tweaks.
I know everybody is supposed to think green now, but that doesn't extend to my computer performance.
My tip for People using Vista:
Save up the pennies and change to Windows 7 as fast as you can.

I have never used the sleep or hibernate options. Always shut down completely although reading the Help Files it does say you should use sleep and only shut down if an install or upgrade requires it. I can't see the point of leaving a computer on for hours if it's not being used and it does load up in under a minute anyway. And surely clearing your cache running CC and turning it off helps to clear all the c*** off the HD. I changed the Power Plan from Balanced to High Performance a couple of days ago just to see if it made any difference. it got brighter and had to be dimmed and don't know if it was my imagination but it seemed to go faster. If everything operates in a fraction of a sec are you going to notice a nanosecond of improvement? Does High Performance make it run faster?

I dont know if you would notice any difference between Balanced and High Performance, never tried it. You will notice a difference between Power Saver and High Performance. Thats only to save the batteries on a laptop. If your plugged in; I dont suppose you will notice much difference in the power consumption, no matter what setting you use. I wouldn't run a high performance machine on anything less, anymore than I would put anything less than avgas in an airplane.
