I like a nice chilled salad with radishes and hard boiled eggies. I like playing Scrabble, too.

On Anne Robinson's Watchdog last night they warned of the dangers of using your laptop in WiFi cafes and hotspots. They demonstrated how easy it was for someone to hack into your email and personal data.

Surely, if I use a firewall I can't be hacked without my knowledge, can I? Otherwise, what is the point of having it?

I watched the programme and yes, your own firewall that you use at home won't block anyone (or, not enough to totally block?) when using a hotspot outside your home - that's my understanding. You need to use a VPN
"One way of protecting wi-fi connections at public hotspots is to use a Virtual Private Network or VPN. Although BT Openzone, The Cloud and T-Mobile all suggest using VPNs, only T-Mobile offer them as a software download when users log on" The BT link above has some good tips.

Win7 Ultimate has got VPN built in, I dont know if the other versions have it. If I'm not on my network, I use 3 mobile network to connect my laptop. I wont use my laptop on any hotspot, yet I never use my laptop for anything that could give my personal details away.
