[shadow=red,left,300]Lynnrose, teletype is no longer used, it's ancient technology, almost like the typewriter. Larry[/shadow]

The last remnants of teletype is the Baud, handshaking, parity and ASCII. All invented for the teletype Teletype invention included the hitherto unknown idea of sending 1's and 0's down an analogue phone line by using 1KHz as 0 and 1.1Khz as 1. and assigning a number to a letter and having 8 bits, 1 stop bit etc. In them days a teletype worked fast enough at 110 Baud (I remember when the football results came up on the telly when they focussed the camera on the paper as the "golfball" flew across. Them were the days) So the teletype was an important invention that is still used to get us to this page.. I hope you're taking this in, I will be asking questions later....

Teletype is another name for a teleprinter, the teletype was used in America and the teleprinter in Europe. I think. One could feed the punched tape into the auto head and it would transmit to the other end at a speed of approx 60 wpm. I think.

I still have a pristine Brother Daisy Wheel Typewriter with about 8 different wheels. The print quality with a carbon ribbon is excellent even by today's standards. Only problem is that it will not print in colour.
