Yes there's nearly always a 64 bit version for most distros linuxmint.secsup.org/stable/7/LinuxMint-7-x64.isoIn default kernels you get much the same limitations as you do with Windows - regarding 4 GB of RAM, and that is the main reason people use a 64 bit OS, so they can use all of the available RAM if they have 4 GB or more. There's also a slight speed difference - for the better, but it's nothing like twice as quick which you would expect

If 32 bit Mint did, then 64 bit Mint should too

I might try running it on The Beast and see if it picks up my drivers. We can see how it likes 4 cores and 8 gig RAM. It might struggle with them 2 monster graphics cards, but it will be interesting to see. I can use Windows to download all the drivers and have them saved and ready.

There's no need to download drivers Ken, so called 'restricted' (non open source basically) drivers should be offered to you by Mint - assuming you install it that is. Running it 'live' does too I believe, but then asks for a reboot which is pointless because it starts from scratch again.
Other live CD's like PClinuxOS will give you the 'restricted' drivers as part of the normal boot
ATI/AMD graphic drivers are historically poor for Linux, with Nvidia much better supported, but that situation is improving almost on a daily basis. I really should keep a machine with ATI graphics to monitor the situation, but I've always preferred Nvidia cards

Running a Phenom 940 on an Asus motherboard and AMD chipset, it made sense to keep it AMD all the way through Mikk. You lose a lot by putting in nVidia cards and they haven't caught up with the Radeon HD4870 yet. I would have gone with nVidia myself, had I built an Intel based machine. I didn't build The Beast with Linux in mind, but it looks like a good experiment to see how it handles it. I know Elvis loves his Mint, so I thought I would go with that flavour. I have got a 750 gig HDD sitting in the docking station, not doing anything at the moment. I can change the boot order and install it on that, I dont have to mess around and set up a dual boot with the internal drives. I suppose I could put a dozen different flavours on that one drive and not change the 3 internal drives at all.

I have used Gloria since the week it was launched and when they released the 64bit I downloaded it. It did all that it said it would do on the tin but for me there was no discernible difference what so ever between versions.
