I have an Epson Stylus Photo R340 printer which has decided to play me up insofar as it will print half a jpeg for example and then eject the paper. If I try a second time it prints out a load of gobblygook (code maybe) over several pages. I have unistalled the printer software and re-installed it, but the problem remains. Error message too: I would add that this problem is unique to my PC, the same printer works fine on my laptop. Many thanks for any help. I also need a download site for the Status Monitor 3 please since the ink levels are not being shown.

have you tried reinstalling the drivers and resting the printer up or removing the default printer

Does it do it with all pictures Buzz??? Where are the pictures coming from?? It looks more like they haven't been saved properly, rather than a printer problem. If they are coming from a camera or memory card, it looks like the printer is printing faster than they are downloading. I have seen this happen before, when printing from floppy disks. I've not seen it happen, when printing from the hard drive. I have also found when downloading a memory card to the hard drive, for some reason only half the picture shows up. Dodgy external media, seems to be more the problem than the printer itself. If thats not the case, I wasn't doing much anyway.

Ken - thanks for your interesting reply. I am still puzzled however since yes, the picture I tried (on the PC) was uploaded from my camera via a USB cable to My Documents/My Pictures. Opening up the images in Irfanview they look ok and the FIRST print is fine. However if I try to print a second copy of the same file immediately, it prints half the image followed by the spurious code I outlined, and the printer then continues to print some of this code at around 2 to 3 lines only maybe on up to 6 sheets of paper. If I switch off the printer, and restart the PC it continues to run sheets of code and no jpeg image.
I would say that the Laptop produces superb prints of the same jpeg(s) over an over again without a hitch, these (same) files having been transferred once again to My Documents, BUT this time uploaded directly from the built in Card Reader.
I think the PC is ok with WORD documents and Excel files but I will do some further checks tonight and get back to you.

I had a similar problem with one of my old printers. Cured it by buying a new one.

Ken - I have spent the last couple of hours trying every thing I can think of to solve this problem to no avail.
1. WORD documents together with MS PUBLISHER and EXCEL documents all print fine.
2. I re-installed the printer yet again and ANY pictures print fine the first time, but upon repeating a print the original problem still occurs i.e. either half an image plug spurious code, which results in several pages going thro' NOT just pics from my camera, but images from Google for example also..
3. I suspected that it may be Irfanview and so I tried a print using PSP7 and got exactly the same problem?
4. Using the same printer attached to my laptop I have no problems whatsoever.
5. I still have not managed to dowload the Ink Status Monitor 3 either, last time I needed this Mikkh kindly gave me the relevant URL.
I am at a loss now to know what to do?

Mikkh, if you see this would you let me have the URL for the Status Monitor 3 for Epson Photo R340/XP as once before please. Thanks.

Sadly, mikkh hasn't yet contributed to this thread so I'll do my best for you.
The status monitor should be on your computer.
Assuming you are using XP, click, START Settings, Printers and faxes.
This will open a window. Right click on your printer, Epson and select Preferences.
On mine, Status Monitor 3 for the R300, I click the Maintence tab then Speed and Progress button. Another box opens and I can disable the Status monitor.
It also occurs that you might be able to run your printer without the Epson software. But you will need to do more than just remove it from Add/Remove. The driver will also need to be removed.
Whether you have a status monitor or not I still think it will be a good idea to remove the Epson driver all together and allow Windows to reinstall it from the web.

As you are using M$ Office Buzzy, try opening them using Office Picture Manager and print from there. Come to that you could make Office Printer the Default and see how it goes.

Ken - Office Picture manager delivers exactly the same problem as before.
JoJo.
I have managed to download the Status Monitor 3 and at least that is working ok now - thanks.

You never know Buzzy, different printer but worth a try (doesn't explain the code you get though)................
"Okay, the paperfeed at the top, on the left hand side is a grey slide, (right in the printer) to hold the paper in place. USE IT to keep the paper straight, it seems, if the paper goes in straight, the whole page is printed. I don't know how or why but it worked for me! ^^ (and this is after the printer was stored in a cupboard for a year, because of this problem!)"

Hi - LR, well it is an interesting theory except for the fact I have the paper guides as 'tight' as possible, AND if used on my laptop it works fine and produces amazing quality pics even with compatible cartridges. I deduce that the problem is software, but where/how I havn't a clue.

Sorry, the word they use is 'garbled', it's number 11 and tells you to check the print queue, although I'm sure you've done this. I just thought the mention of it being a communication error might help in some way.
Also, although I'm not saying this is your problem, I had a problem a few months ago with my all-in-one, the scanner would only print directly, it wouldn't load the image to my computer(another communication issue), although everything else worked fine . After lots of googling I bought a new slightly shorter cable, and since have had no problems at all.

Hey Roz - I replaced the printer USB cable with a "slightly shorter" one and guess what, problem solved. Thanks for your suggestion.
