Hi guys
I am running vista and ie7 keeps freezing I have tried installing some 'free downloads' to fix this but after installing and scanning they want paid for fixing.......so I know I have loads of errors (keeps telling me) but can't find anything 'free' to get rid of them......there used to be fixes on the other boards but I cant find them now any suggestions?

You could try disabling Add-ons first...
Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then Internet Explorer, No Add-ons (I don't have IE7 on the PC I am using now, so let me know if you have the option I mention above)
See if that stops IE freezing. If IE7 now works as it should, you need to find out which add-on is causing the problem.
Tools, Internet Options, Programs tab, Manage Add-Ons button Click first one, then choose Disable, OK etc Close IE, see how it goes. If it still freezes, repeat the above, enable the add on from before, then move to the second one and do the same and so on.
If you find the add on that seems to be causing the problem, remove it from Add/Remove programs if it is there.

Lynnrose
Tried that but there is either no add ons or they are already disabled.

I was coming in here to ask if anyone else had been having problems IE7 as we've been having it freeze, but it seems I'm not alone, and go so slow so I've started using firefox, as at least that is working normally. John

One thing I meant to ask before I clicked the previous comment to send is now I am using Firefox can I delete IE7 altogether, and still be able to access normal msn and other things like my live mail without having the IE installed?? or do I have to have both IE & Firefox installed?? Thanks in advance John

Yes, you have to have IE of some sort installed, because it's so tightly embedded within Windows, you risk breaking the system. It was possible in 98 because I did it, but it's more trouble than it's worth in XP onwards. It takes up very little space anyway

Okay thanks for that mikkh. I'll leave it alone then. I just wondered whether the two might conflict, but obviously not. Cheers, John

Hi again
Just wanted to say that I went to the help and support site at Microsoft and followed lots of different instructions.........not exactly sure what I have done but it seems to be working a bit better now
Thanks for your help.......might be back again if it freezes!

Now's the time to get a backup browser or two then
The world still spins without Internet Explorer you know :-p
Try Firefox, Opera, Safari or even Googles effort, which is surprisingly good now it's a newer version.
You can have as few or as many as you like, contrary to some misconceptions - browsers don't conflict
