MSN not responding

I am sorry to ask you folks for help re another problem - I have a desk top which is two years old and a new laptop which is 2 weeks old I get problems on both machines and firstly had Dell run diagnostic tests with me on the hard drive of the desk top (BTW both machines are Windows Vista) trying to reply to emails not all the time but some of the time I get the message "MSN is not responding" followed by do you want to close the programme or wait for the programme to respond! I choose wait but nothing happens and eventually I ask to close and start again. I then get the message MSN is checking for a solution to this problem!
This also happens on occasions when I am browsing a group site for photography I am member of and looking to comment on members pictures. At first I genuinely believed it was my desk top with a problem, now I am believing since I have the new laptop with the same thing occurring, its a problem with MSN. I have been in touch with them and get the same ole rubbish they need more information whilst I have told them as much as I have mentioned here to you good people. I would be most interested to know if anybody else is experiencing this annoying and frustrating problem. I would have considered a Mac if it was not for the fact I use photoshop and it would not be compatible on the Mac as I have the windows version I have also had Windows for 7 years - I dont remember this problem until I had Vista . I pay for premium and like the designer mail but wondering now why I am foolish enuff to be paying for something thats not working for me. TIA Plucky
PS I do not have a virus my protection is up to date and Dell have said its not my hard drive I can get help on the software from Dell but at a price (quoted £49) and it may not be that my software is corrupt as previously mentioned I get this problem on the new machine as well. thanks again

If they run the premium service anything like they used to run the groups, I'd have to say it's an MSN problem

Ken (Old Viking) also uses the premium service I believe, so he's probably the best one to ask

I doubt if it's a Vista problem unless both machines are not very well equipped with RAM

Check you have got the latest browser from the MSN Members Centre. Even if you have, its not very good with anything over XP. It can be a bit slow at times and the best thing is to if it stops, is to close the browser and sign in again. Make sure you haven't got too many startup programs running, just your security and not much else. Keep your Internet temp folder below 100 Mb and clean it out regularly. It will always be a bit slow starting up, but it shouldn't freeze. Even mines a bit slow starting and I'm running Windows7, powered by a truck engine. Once its loaded, it should run pretty quick. MSN home page is like loading up the entire catalog for the British museum. If you have got less than 2 gig RAM, it will take forever. I run C Cleaner at least once a day. Hopefully before Windows 7 gets released, they will have a new browser. They are well left behind everyone else.

thanks for this I do have 3 gig of memory on the new lappy but only 2 gig on the desk top and was going to upgrade the memory imminently but not if its the software not working properly as in corrupt, I wanted to sort that out first. I thought I had windows 7 but will have to check that out MSN have written to me but its a mammoth task they are asking me to do (well it is for me anyway)!
I am not getting too much of a problem and considering I dont sit on the PC all day long, not worth worrying about too much. I usually do end up closing the programme but its always when your short of time it will happen, perhaps it just doesnt like being rushed heheh!

Just checked the laptop and have the most recent version of MSN - next to check the desk top for which version and its not happened today funnily enuff, perhaps I should not speak too soon or maybe I have not been online as much

What slowed my MSN mailbox up, I put my junk filters up to the max. I also have 6 POP3 mailboxes on MSN as well as hotmail. I get a lot of mail and them filters slow the incoming mail right down, if I have been offline for a while. Another thing that slows things up; your mailbox will start importing mail as soon as you log in and Messenger will startup at the same time. You can set the mailbox not to import; unless you log into the mailbox, but you cant stop Messenger. That Premium browser leaves a lot to be desired, its a strange setup.
