I got a message to download the new version of internet explorer, which I did. Since then I cannot access it properly. It seems to be coming through from aol. I also am having trouble trying to delete it in remove programmes. I would like to delete and then re install. Any ideas? Many thanks.

You dont say which version you have installed Jane, if its v7 try here for instructions: support.microsoft.com/kb/927177. If you have put v8 BETA on, use a ballpeen hammer. KC

I downloaded Explorer 8 Ken and am quite pleased with it--it even got rid of a yahoo search bar that niggled the hell out of me. But I have had fun since. I took a pic last week and couldnt download it to comp. So thinking to mesen--th'only thing changed since last I downloaded pics was E8. I did a System Restore to before I didded it. Pic downloaded fine !! THEN I noticed my antivirus was switched off and no way could I switch it on..tried Explorer to go to site and ask advice. Explorer wouldnt open tho' I tried many times and even rebooted.. Sooooooooo--back to System Restore and undo last restore.. Back to everything working well and Explorer 8 fine. I have however not tried to download any pics since--will look for camera disk and reinstal camera and hope that works..

Jane said she got a message to update Pepper, so I presume it would be v 7. Version 8 works beautiful on Windows 7 RC1, but there seems to be trouble with it on XP. It comes as part of Windows 7, so your not having to download it seperate. I dont know how it works on Vista, but its probably OK and the only bugs are with XP.

Maybe its just me then Pepper, I thought I saw v8 BETA on Google yesterday. They dont normally offer it out until the BETA sign has gone. XP comes with v6 I believe on an OEM copy, thats why I though it might be v7. Although most tailor made computers will have been installed with v7. Unless you want to test something, no one should download any BETA product. They can run as smooth as silk, or they can wreck your entire system. If it is version 8 that Jane has put on, your way with the System Restore is probably about the best way round it. If that fails theres always the ballpeen hammer.

I dont think its just you Ken.. I think computers have their own individual quirks built in and when they go on-line the quirks multiply..rofl..

Yes, you do meet some right quirks online Pepper.
Computers are like puppies they take on the personality of their owners. After a few months a program will work well on one and not at all on an identical computer. This not only makes it hard to troubleshoot, but also accounts for a large percentage of suicides.

I find that if I speak to my computer in the same way that I speak to the men in my life - simple language clearly and firmly stated - I get best response, even then they sometimes rebel.

Women have got an Off button, it called a Marrage Licence. They should have called it an Off Licence.

I have tried insalling 7 and had no luck. Also tried 8 and still had problems. So think I shall just have to do without it on the laptop. Still got it on the desktop and it is okay on there.

If IE 8 was installed as an update Jane, it will be listed under updates in add and remove, so make sure you click to show updates, then you should see it listed and be able to remove it.

Thanks. Yes I have found all the updates. Deleted all. The internet explorer on the desktop is the one that is supplied by Orange. It has been on some time , so probably not able to get it now.

It should have reverted to the one installed before Jane, or the one which originally installs with Windows, if you removed the latest. Hasn't it done?

If you have deleted the update, it should have reverted to the original that was installed with Windows Jane. If its not working; go into Add & Remove, Windows Components and take the tick out of the IE box. Then reboot and put the tick back in. It might ask for the installation disk, but it should put it back without it.
