Has anyone heard whether or not an HP Photosmart D5460 is compatible with XP home? I think I read somewhere that there should be a patch currently unavailable online.
I have found that with messages that I must update the system that the download is bigger in size than the installation disc and every time I have computer problems - bad problems - fresh reinstal needed. So, is there any known problem with this printer?
I had this bought for me as a Xmas present. I was asked what I wanted and said "an epsom photo printer please" and I received the HP which I don't like and costs a bomb for inks as nowhere do compatible ones and the few that do don't last 5 seconds.
Today I have to start a new reinstall and wonder whether to put the HP back and immediately update the drivers or to dust off my old Epsom printer and use that.

Do you know, something really does go wrong when I have to update the drivers! Last time i did so I needed to do a repair/reinstall - this time I'll have to do a fresh one. I did remember seeing on a google search that this has happened to a few others and the reply was that microsoft had not issued a patch.
I'm on SP3 and it may be due to the fact that it is always very hard to update the drivers because it seems to be a fresh installation every time (reconnect printer as if I had just purchased it) I have no problems updating any driver apart from the printer.
As you say, it should be ok! Thanks for your answer as I appreciate it.

As soon as I find that the drivers on the supplied CD are out of date I always download and save the updated ones and store in my special software folder different sub-folder for each on another hard drive. So any time I need to reload the system I have all drivers for my hardware in one place

Which is very good advice! I'm working on this path right now copying all my drivers which I'll burn to a CD.
Found an excellent program to do this but I am not sure about advertising rules here to pass the details on. However it is sensible to keep a copy of drivers somewhere.
