I bought a new PC last weekend. Here it is. (I don't know how to insert links yet)
www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0497318396.1231507240@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgadegefmkfdjcflgceggdhhmdfok.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=406230&category_oid=
I couldn't work out why it was so slow and unstable. It crashed right from the off and showed no signs of becoming user friendly. I composed a message for CIT to get help, but it crashed as I sent the message and I lost it, (shortly followed by my patience...)
I have heard people on here mention anti-virus software as being responsible for losing power and speed, so I uninstalled McAfee that came with the rig and installed AVG in it's place. Instant success! You know that feeling you get when you finally solve an irritating problem? Well, I've got that feeling now!
I thought I would let you know in case anyone else is suffering similar problems. It does make you wonder if it's worth having A/V that causes so much conflict within a PC.

Hey Fozzie, just to say well done on figuring it out yourself. It does sound ridiculous that McAfee is pre-installed on a brand new computer and yet causes that problem.

I loaded 6 laptops just before xmas, brand new from various outlets for friends and family, and the first thing I always do is take off preinstalled security not matter how long its trialed for, and use what I want to put on. mcaffee was on at least 3 of those new pc's.

McAffee used to be pretty good around the turn of the century. I think it was about 2002/3, they offered me a 6 months free trial on their new version. I think I kept it for about a week, it was more trouble than enough. They still made some good stand alone removal tools. Since MBAM replaced Rogue Remover and SAS replaced just about everything else, McAffee is well past it sell by date. When a product comes pre-installed, it a good sign that its crap.
