i bought the licence for 2 comps , when i try to run set up reccomends i install service pack 1 , where should i install latest pack but ive heard service pack 1 can give you problems or should i just look for free firewall compatible with vist

You'd have been better buying a hardwall firewall (router) than a software one IMO - and if you already have one, there was no real need to buy a commercial software firewall as extra insurance with so many good freeware ones about
But back to your question, yes I would install SP1. The reported problems with it have been over exagerated, because I've installed it on lots of PC's without a single mishap so far.
And as you have payed for it, it makes sense to use it, but.... you then risk getting used to it, and forking out again next year when the licence expires, which is what they want of course

yes but when i take my laptop to work(care) on a 24 hour shift , i use a dongle to access the internet when my clients are hopefully asleep. i do need the software version in that instance. im downloading sp1 as i write, looked up in manufacturers site amilio laptops pre 2008 do not give me sp1 via updates. i get your point about the quality free software though
