was having grief after 4 yrs of using AVG free ..The update manager kept saying not able to update. On recommendation of the previous site I downloaded Avast Do I have to do any tweaking after installing please.  |

Not really, you can merge the second tray icon with the first for neatness, and you'll need to get a new (free) registration key within 30 days, but it's all good after that - and it speaks to you too!

Lynne - when you logon to your PC make sure your speakers are ON. Avast will load the latest definitions and will audibly tell you so.

Ok,
Right click on the Avast icon near your clock
left click - program settings > sounds > untick 'disable sounds'

buzzy tried all that..No tick in box so put one in and removed it. anyroad the icon spins so I guess it is working How does one get updates..AVG seemed to udate every 5 minutes..drove me nuts |

You can force it by using the menu - right click the icon in the tray
...and pick 'updating' then ' iAVS Update'
It might not do it immediately, but it will do it in a short while - depending on internet activity.
It's favourite time to update, is when you first switch on (and connect to the internet)
It usually only does this once a day, which is normal. And sometimes there are no updates
