Hello
I'm about to finish my subscription to Norton. Is the free AVG still considered as good?

Well I don't consider it good since the new 8 version anyway. I wasn't too impressed with the older versions either really, but at least it wasn't the huge resource hog it now is.
Avast offers more protection if you have a POP email account, but if you only use web based email like Hotmail, Googlemail, Yahoo etc then Avira is fine too

Avast is pretty good anti-virus software. If people do not use Outlook Express , Messenger then they can turn these features off in the Avast options. It frees up some resources too.

About AVG ... The new version has a built-in Spyware remover so it will detect spyware as well as viruses.

Its the new its and bobs that have been added to AVG, that has wrecked it in the first place. I have always thought of AVG as being free and everyone got used to using it, instead of paying for something better. I started using Avast years ago when it was the only AV that worked on 64 bit, now I put it on everything. I dont think there is a free AV that can touch it and I would get lonely without its creepy voice.
