I use Sunbelt Kerio on my main PC with XP and Comodo with my Vista laptop. No problems with either.

I use Gufw 0.20.6. with Linux Mint it's FREE ) gufw.tuxfamily.org Gufw is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 3 of the Licence, or (at your option) any later version. I use Comodo free firewall with XP Pro

A hardware firewall (router) is always best IMO. There's no real need for a software firewall with a router - unless you're ultra paranoid

If you download the latest version of Comodo, it comes with the full security suite. Make sure you only install the firewall, or you will have 2 antiviruses running and that not a good idea.
