Installed Build 7000, x64 on my laptop (P8400, 4GB Ram, 1GB ATI 3450) It runs amazingly well. I had to enable the use of both processors in msconfig for startup (1 core/processor is the default for all Windows OS's), but after doing that, my startup times are less than 25 seconds!!! (You can do this in Vista/XP as well, its under Boot tab --> advanced options) Loving it so far. It truly is a methodical version of Vista. I've been meaning to reinstall Vista on my desktop (due to a power outage corrupting some windows files :/). I think I'll go the W7 route. My only complaint is Homesharing (or whatever its called), for some reason ever since I enabled it and then disabled it, I can no longer see shared files on my home network/LAN. Even the files on my NAS are invisible. Might be an issue with encryption settings over wireless (stupid draft N), but the fact that no other computers on my network on W7 is the most likely culprit. Oh well, I guess its just a bump in the road. www.flickr.com/photos/samadjee/3183738090/

I have to say that after enabling the 4 cores in XP Pro x64 on my new computer, it does start much quicker. I proved it on a new build I was doing with a dual core processor, and the startup times went from 1.25 minutes to 40 seconds.
Elvis stumbled on a gem of a tip here. Thanks Dude !

Elvis.
I run a quad core processor and Windows XP home.
I didn't realise I needed to enable the extra processors.
Can you say how I should do it?
I checked on the BOOT.INI tab, clicking Advanced Options, but couldn't see anything that suggested enabling extra processors.

Maybe it hasn't got the option with Home Jojo. With Pro, Vista and Win7, its right at the top in Boot, Advanced and you cant miss it. There are 2 boxes, one is How many Processors and the other is How much RAM to use. It will allow me to use all 4 processors, but for some reason Win7 x 64 limits me to 3074 Mb of RAM on bootup.
This is just a guess on my part, but SP3 supposedly turns Home into Pro. So installing SP3 might bring up that option. If you have already installed SP3, I'm afraid its Tuff Thingy.
It's no big deal Jojo, it just speeds up the boot time.

You done good Elvis, Thanks a lot. I didn't know anything about it.
My processors are set up in BIOS, to full steam ahead. No down time for any one of them and 3% overclock at all times with no powersaving. It never even occured to me, that Windows could limit me to one processor to boot up. I read your post in NHI and checked straight away. There it was Processors 1 and 1012 Mb RAM. I changed it to 4 processors and 8192 Mb RAM and it knocks the RAM back 3074 Mb for some reason.

It looks like someone dropped out of this conversation.
One of the first things I did upon installing Win 7 x 64 RC1 today, was make Elvis's modification to the boot. It still restricts the RAM exactly the same as the BETA did.

Hey KC... It did the same to me. Just take the tick out of the memory box and just leave the tick in the processor box. I ended up with 3 gig of ram when I put the tick in thereHere it is here Jojo ......

Your welcome Jojo.
Thanks Kev,
It took a bit to soak in, if you dont tick the box it dont put any restrictions on.
