Just downloaded a live distro of slax now i know nothing about linux Question is i connect to the internet via a 3 dongle which in windows automatically opens when i insert the dongle This is not happening with Slax Anyone know if this is possible Thanks Grant

Yes it's definitely possible, I have a friend who uses a 3 dongle on his laptop (with Linux) I'm pretty sure it's PClinuxOS he uses to achieve that, but I'll confirm that later when I ring him.
Slax is primarily designed to work on older PC's and you may need something like 'ndiswrapper' which uses parts of the Windows driver for getting wireless cards/dongles to work.
I'd suggest you forget about Slax though, and concentrate on a more beginner friendly distro like PClinuxOS or Mint

Thanks Mikkh Reason i picked Slax was because it was only a 190mb download ! I will see if i can get one of the others and try that

I have used PC Linux and i now use Linux Mint and i do now everything usb that i have used works fine, i don't now about a dongle which i assume is usb.
Mouse, 4 port usb hub, games pad, web camera, mobile phone, camera all usb stuff.

I have got a linux mint iso which i burnt to cd but it loads so far then nothing Slax is picking up my usb keyboard usb mouse and usb external hd but no matter what i try it will not pick up the usb dongle !

It's not a question of picking up USB devices, Linux does that with no trouble usually It's whether or not there's an easy route to configuring it for non experts PClinuxOS does have that option
