My brothers PC has taken it onto itself to not boot up we cannot get it to go past the first couple of screens then it seems to loop back to the first screen. It will not boot into safe mode either I could give him a clone of my HD but its the photos that he has not backed up that he needs to get off the HD Any suggestions gratefully received Thanks

Be sure to do a Full Format of his drive before reinstalling. It sounds like boot sector virus and a Quick Format wont get rid of it.

I would be very careful doing it that way. If that drive has a boot sector virus on it, they are the worst type of infection you can get. By hooking it up to his new C: drive, he's risking infecting that. He would have been better off transferring the files to external media, and scanning them. Then wipe that drive clean and fully formatting it, before connecting it to a working drive. A boot sector virus can go through a system like a dose of salts.

While this is really sad, I am somewhat surprised that some of the psycho-nerds are still bothering to write these viruses.

Unfortunately there are a lot of sick people out there Jojo. There are probably people writing code on their laptops in their padded cells. All provided by the NHS.

Well after all that his pc decided to really give us the run around and stopped working so we decided to wipe his HD completely and to clone a copy of my HD we were going to do it on the Sunday Yep my pc decided to give the ghost before we cloned it ! At this point I was all for throwing the d**n things off the 6th floor balcony ! Ended up having to go out on Monday and buying a copy of XP Home SP3 but all is well now and we have the PC's working (fingers crossed !!!)

To clone a copy to another machine is the same difference. I'm not bothered, do what you like. My names not Gates.
