Yes, Spotify is a nice little player. Good selection of songs....searched for Michael Jackson and loads of tracks available.
Just had a look at their FAQ and it says...
Do I need to pay to use Spotify? No, the advertising-funded version of Spotify is free of charge, however, for now it requires that you receive an invite to register, click here to sign up for an invite. Alternatively, you can pay for an ad-free subscription to Spotify. I didn't get an invite and you didn't either Mikkh.....also I have not seen any adverts, have you?
Hey, building up a Playlist now, this is great, no need to put my CD's on my laptop, just choose some fav songs then drag into my playlist folder.

No, no adverts, just the main Window
I can't find a way to download them though, not that I'm bothered because I have most already and it's just a convenient way of playing them without searching through my CD's

No, you can't download.

Mikkh says....
Spotify is a rather neat online music streaming program, which can find practically any music you search for.
For listening live it's great and it can even save your playlists
It was a free beta before, with no restrictions. Now it comes with adverts every few tracks and and a gentle hint that the premium version is what you really want.
It works in Linux too (via Wine)
... not sure I like the updated version though

I'm glad I found spotify its a brilliant station. I couldn't believe how many old and I mean real old artists even dead uns had tracks on it. Only drawback was it had nothing of the Womenfolk, but then again nothing does nowadays lol. I've just signed up to jango so will have a good listen in the morning Cheers, John

Spotify offers PC music downloads
....but you have to be a premium subscriber
"The music streaming service Spotify has announced that it will allow users to download music to their computers.
The new service will only be available to premium subscribers, who will have to pay £10 per month for their music. " More...

Spotify has now changed the way you can get the programme....
"Spotify free is currently in an invitation-only beta, which means you need to have received an invitation token to access the service. Not invited? You have two options. If you just can’t wait, you can pay to become a Spotify Premium member and get immediate access Otherwise, sign up if you would like us to send you an invite as soon as we are able to. Currently the waiting list is long. To get immediate access please buy Spotify Premium."
Previously, you could just download the free version, no hassle. I'm glad that I was able to get Spotify when it was simpler. If any of you choose to go on the waiting list, let us know how long it took before you were accepted. I checked to see if I could give out invitations, but I have no invites to give, sorry!
"How do I get new invites? Getting invites is one of the benefits of being a Premium subscriber in one of the countries where Spotify Free is available. You receive two new invitations each time your Premium account is renewed (yearly or monthly, depending on your payment method). "
