Reading the Ubuntu Pocket Guide. it tells me that an entry will be added to the Places Menu at the top of the screen, and selecting it will allow me to browse the device. All that tells me is the title of my program, and that there are 51 items in the folder. So what do I do to now please? Regards, Westy

What 'program' are you trying to run?
You can't run Windows programs inside Linux, if that is what you're trying to do - well actually you can via the 'wine' emulator, but it's pretty limited and not worth bothering with IMO.
Do you mean you want to view pictures, play movies/MP3's from the USB device ?
Most Linux's will automatically detect the new device and add an extra icon to the desktop

Thanks for your help mikkh, but I just thought it might be worth a try. It's a program I have been using for a number of years that was on a disk that came free with a mag: yes it is for Msoft. It's called Quicken and it really is just fine for me.

Try 'wine-doors' then wddb.wine-doors.org/downloadsWine is ok for older office type programs, which is why I said it was limited But as quicken is an older office type program, you may be lucky Once you have a more friendly face to 'wine' with wine-doors, it should be easy Look for it in the package manager (synaptic) before trying the above link though But if you can't find it, you need the 'all.deb' version, which is the top one
