My goodness, has it been 8 years already? My how time flies when you are having fun. I don't know if anyone keeps track of these things, but it would be interesting to see exactly where we stand as far as longevity is concerned. Are there other sites out there who have been around constantly for longer? Any statistics out there we can look at?

MSN Groups is a commercial community site created by Microsoft in 1995
Since 1995. there were various communities on MSN, and they were all run by MSN and had REAL newsgroups and REAL IRC chat rooms. There were not easily updatable and only MSN Communities staff Members could access anything to update the one page that each "community" had. There was one for every generic interest.
The "make your own group" Communities came into being in summer of 1999. That's when they did away with the REAL newsgroups too - and the real IRC chat rooms. Message boards were added, and the chatrooms, and one 'customizable' homepage and photo albums. Gradually, the list pages, custom pages and documents pages were added.

Thanks for the info Lynnrose. I popped off a note to MSN to see if they will answer the question. It would be interesting to see who else has been around as long as CIT has. I'll post it as soon as they get back to me, if they ever do, that is. LOL

I have been having a dig around and have found what I think is the oldest thread on the actual message boards...Video clip
Unfortunately, I was a bit over-zealous when I was made assistant manager......(New Appointment) that I got carried away and deleted old message boards, but luckily archived some old messages, so we don't seem to have messages from Dec 1999 - April 2000, sorry about that, but I guess none of you explore old threads anyway. Shame though.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. LOL The technology of 6 years ago, wow. LOL
Oh, MSN got back to me and there are no statistics like that for Groups so even they don't know who is the oldest group.

That's good of MSN to get back to you so quickly, disappointing that they do not keep that sort of record though.
