I might have need to set up a new forum. Is Proboards easy to set up? Is there good technical support?

Yes Angel, it is easy, just click on the link at the bottom of all pages, 'Get your own free message board.' They have a great support forum too

Thanks. I am currently trying out a free for community groups site as a possible new home, but I cannot see any way of putting in a forum and I feel that is one thing that is missing, so I thought if I used that for main information site and linked across for the forum. This is our current site www.greywolves.co.uk/And this is the new one www.greywolves.btik.com although there is the chance to change it later.

Yes, you could design your proboards skin to match the colour scheme of your main info site and can also put links down the left hand side of your proboards site, virtually identical to the ones on your main site (but including a link back to the homepage of your main site) so the two sites will blend in and look like they are on the same 'server' if you see what I mean, shuould look and run quite well I think x

Thanks. I have been trying to sign up, but it tells me my username has been taken. When I try another one, the security board (with the names you type in) covers the bit where you agree ot the TOU and the sign in button. If I can't sign in I can't ask a question in the help forum, so I've been going round in circles, but I'll beat it.

I managed to sign up a WNPC, which is acceptable. wnpc.proboards.com/index.cgi Is Photobucket the best place to store pictures for use in the forum?

I use Tinypic (look in Useful Utilities) and also make use of the Imageshack uploader on these boards. Lots of people use Photobucket though

I still use Photobucket without any problems, not that I often upload pictures. I have been known to though.

I will need to upload some, so have opened a Photobucket account, as I already use it for other stuff. I would have used what I already have, but this is for a voluntary organisation and I might move on one day. Looks like I'm going to need HTML for page editing.

Help. How do I change the background colour to match my other board, it's not on their colour chart? wnpc.proboards.com

You need to go to Admin, Skins/Forum colors, Modify Skin (or create Skin if you want more than one skin) and change the colour to the one you want. You don't have to use their choices, just type in the colour code of the one you want. You could use Color Cop. Open it on the page which has the colour you want as the background and use the eye-dropper to pick up the colour, you will then be able to get the code for that colour. (I use Photoimpact for that....I take a printscreen of the website with the colour I am after, open it in PI and get the colour code that way)

I typed in colours and changed skins, tried all sorts, but I still have that blue background and I don't know how I changed it from the pale one that was there before. I think I need lessons and a link to the help forum.

How do I add my own code?

Post by Lynnrose on Jan 20, 2009 21:10:50 GMT
Your background shows as dark purple and the boards....eg. Forum name and General are in blue
Do you want to use an actual background instead of a colour? If so, save the background to your storage site, copy the URL and paste in where it says 'Background Image URL' Just carry on adding the colours you want, Text colur, Links colour etc until you have it set as you want. Will probably take you awhile to get it just right.

I logged out and set up a non admin account, then logged in. The background went purple. I have a nice logo that could make a background saved in photobucket. I opened it to full size and saved the URL, but no change. I'll have to keep trying a bit more, but so many things to be done elsewhere, it all has to be prioritised. How do I insert the HTML for the chat room?

For the actual chatroom, (the one with the tab at the top of the page)....go to ADMIN and have a look at the features bottom left, it should explain it all. The main thing is for you to sign up to AddonChat, then your room will be ready.

I've got a chat room and an idea how to add it. Color cop was great for the HTML colour, got it spot on. Thanks for all the help.

I will need to link back to my main pages, so I'm going to need just a few buttons I can place, preferably at the side (as in other pages)just for navigation purposes. I can see headers and footers, but not how to place items at the side.

Progress report. I've just found out that I can't put links in the buttons on the free setup, I've got as a front, so it looks like making a page in there with links and linking a button to that. Dang!

'The free set-up?'...Do you mean you can't put linked buttons on your non-proboards site?
