The paint programme I'm using to edit only allows rotating in 90 degree steps. I'd like to rotate this in say 10 or 20 degree steps. Just as I was typing this the screen went black and my heart nearly stopped. Turns out I was operating on battery and it ran low. Phew! Just plugged it in.

Which graphics program are we talking about?
There's usually a custom setting in the better graphics programs

OK I found it. I could use Microsoft Image Editor in Office which allows as little as 1 degree rotation. I open a gif in Ulead 1.5 animator (I have Ulead 4.0 but it doesn't seem to like Vista) then copy a frame I want to edit, paste it in Paint , edit and slot it back in the Gif animator. This is the original

Phoney, Hi.......... I use Gif Animator 4 within constraints of Vista premium. It works perfectly for me. The best way to get the rotation is ulead photo impact version 6 onwards. Using the transform tool and you will see the rotate menu at the top of the working window, you can set this to rotate clockwise or anitclockwise and from 1 up to 180, ...if you have sit it say 7, then copy and paste, click on rotate, and so on , this will be making a new layer or frame each time you hit paste . Try to make sure all the frames are lined up good and true so that your animation will not judder when you run it whatever. Then save as psd file and run it in gif animator to run .........set timing etc. You can sometimes get old versions of ulead photo impact free on magazines etc, Hope this helps.
Pete.

Cheers Pete, can't remember now why Gif Anim. 4 caused concern. I haven't played around with animations for a while. Ulead DVD MovieFactory is installed on this laptop, maybe there's an image editing tool hidden within. Haven't got around to most of the installed software yet.
I'll check my mag cd/dvd's for ulead photo impact. Thanks for tutorial, will give it a go soon.
