If like so many people you have been given/bought an OEM machine or such like and have no discs for it/them (win 7, Vista) then here are legit and untouched windows ISOs to freely download, both 32 & 64bit just make sure you pick the right Edition. Windows 7 - RTM sp1 incorporated ISO. Vista - RTM sp1 setup files.

Hi GuiltySpark, I had my computer fixed recently and the hard drive was Junked including my OS Windows XP, which was replaced with Window's Ultimate it was ok for a wile but now a sign keeps coming up saying this copy may be counterfeit or windows is not genuine. When I went to query the validity the shop were it was fixed they had closed. so now I have to purchase a new copy. What I would like to Know is, What is the best version to buy i.e. Home Premium Ultimate or any other type? I only use the computer for my own bits and piece's it's 64bit.

Go into System Properties H and click on Change Key. Then simply put the original number in again and it might make that counterfeit message go away. You get that message if an OS hasn't been registered, sometimes the first registration dont stick and dont ask me why. If that dont work you know you really have got a fake copy.
Windows 7 Home lacks encryption and networking, although it will set up a simple home network. It does lack a few useful bits and pieces. Pro is the best one to run, unless you have a merchant bank or multi national company. Pro will do everything that Ultimate will, it only really lacks the language pack and who the hell needs that. Enterprise is purely a company office OS, it doesn't have any media and media wont even install on it.

Vikingken has given you some great insight into the versions but it all depends on what you are wanting out of it. Personally I would download any one I wanted and decide afterwards what features I wanted so I could pick and choose what machine has which version simply by removing the confg file using this tool www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/ei-cfg-Removal-Utility.shtml

You can borrow any Windows 7 disk and install your version. Any installation disk contains all versions except Starter and Enterprise. You dont have to put in the key number to install, but if you dont it will install whats on the label. If you want to install a different version to whats on the label, you simply put your key number in before installing. Then it will install the version that key unlocks. If you dont do it that way and you want Pro or Ultimate from a Home disk, you will have to use the upgrade option and put your number in then. If you only want Home from a Pro or Ultimate disk, you must put your key number in first. It will install Pro or Ultimate otherwise, theres no downgrade option and so it will stop working in 3 days.
