Is it possible to update WinSP Pro SP3 to Win7 without losing all the data. I have Win7 CD in both 32 and 64 bit. If the update is possible which CD would you recommend that I use?
Many Thanks,
Alex

A computer running xp is unlikely to be good enough to run Windows 7 You need at least 2 GB RAM and would only need 64 bit if you had 4 or more GB of RAM

I have a relatively recent computer with 2 physical drives. I have Win XP on one and Win7 on the other and I select which I want to boot up with manually. Win XP is corrupted after a virus attack. So, computer is not the limiting factor, but I would like to know if I use Win7 CD and select update, will it do that on top of Win XP and not destroy the data.
Thanks,
Alex

If you put the Win 7 DVD in a running xp system it should offer to do a compatibility test which will assess the hardware and already installed software. If it accepts XP as an upgradeable option your data will be kept in 'windows.old' folder
