If you don't change your hardware, the previous version is good enough. Because of the way Linux works - i.e. all hardware drivers are essentially built in at kernel level, you would only need the latest version if you have very new hardware.
Having said that, kernels can be upgraded, but it's not a job for the faint hearted and most just opt to install a new release instead

I think I prefer the Windows way Mikk, just stick the new hardware in and run the software if I have to. Its really only graphics software with Windows 7, Windows doesn't put enough puff into the fans. Windows runs them at 30% and my fans need a minimum of 50%. Of course I have got Marvell Yukon network controllers, which Windows doesn't like and it takes me all of 1 minute to install the driver.

H! Mikkh,
I was playing with Linux Mint 11 last night from the DVD and i have had no problems, i will install it next week when i have had more time and have cleared my stuff of my hard drive.
Have you heard of any problems putting Linux 10 or 11 on new hardware, i have never heard of any problems and i have not had any problems but some are saying they have had problems putting Linux on new hardware.

Good, newer releases shouldn't have any problems with new hardware though
Mint have decided to stay with Gnome 2 by all accounts, which is good because Gnome 3 is pretty awful IMO
I've yet to burn it myself, but I might have a go later

I have not installed it yet on my Computer but a mate wanted me to install it on his computer along side XP, Linux Mint 9 and then Linux Mint 11.
I put XP and Mint 9 on for him a long time ago.

I have just spent the morning reinstalling W7 64bit and Linux Mint 11 64bit on my Computer all went well, the only thing that got to me was putting in the CD i booted up and had a blank screen for about 30 seconds then the picture came back and all went well
Libreoffice Writer is on as default on Mint 11 is it Open Office ? It seems like it is.

Yes LibreOffice is just OpenOffice in a different dress
For now, the two are identical, but as it's a different project there will be subtle differences in future releases
