Hi I'm just wondering if any members are using Windows 7 RC1 or Beta at CIT, I'm using RC1 build 7100 and have been for the last few weeks, I'm quite happy with it and i did pre-order Win 7 Pro, any thoughts on Win 7 ?

I'm still using RC1 x 64 on my laptop John and its been no trouble up to now. Its got an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66 GHz and 4 gig RAM. It found every driver for it; including the mobile wireless network modem, that I use when away from my home network.
I had to take it off The Beast, its not got the drivers right for my graphics setup. If I was using a pair of Radeon HD 4870 2 gig RAM x 2, It would work. I'm using HD 4870 2 gig RAM x 2 and HD 4870 1 gig RAM and the CrossfireX wont work. It worked perfect with BETA, but not RC1. I have gone back to using XP SP2 x 64, which is even faster than the Win7 BETA x 64. No use building a formular 1 and running it on 1 star petrol. I reported it to Microsoft, dont know if anyone ever reads the reports. I have pre-ordered the final release and hoping they have sorted out the drivers. If not I will put it on my laptop and continue to use XP x 64 on The Beast. If the drivers will work OK, I will use it and restore the laptop to XP. I dont use that much these days anyway.

Hi John, pleased to meet you.
The Beast has an AMD Phenom II 940 3000 MHz x 4, 8 gig DDR 1066 MHz Corsair Dominator Air Flow RAM. Its on a Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard and with its Radeon HD4870 x 3, it will leave any Intel Q standing at the gate. It can give the Intel i7's a good run for their money.

They certainly not cheap, but my wife is 6000 miles away and I haven't seen her for nearly 17 years.

There's been quite a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in other threads, and the general opinion is it's a big improvement on Vista. It's not as greedy as Vista and has very good driver support.
That was reinforced yet again last week when I tried to get an oldish MP3 player to work. Linux didn't want to know full stop, which was kind of strange because I've used several MP3 players successfully in it. XP recognised it as a device but failed to find a driver for it. I was ready to throw it as a faulty unit, but gave it one last chance in a laptop running Windows 7
Instantly recognised, driver automatically installed - job done !
After the farce of Vista and it's slow take up by customers, Windows 7 looks set to be a winner (which is unfortunate, because Vista had persuaded a lot of people to try Linux)

I've been using XP since it came out and would be happy to keep on using it. You Linux lovers change your OS more often than you change your knickers.

I'm running W7 RC 32bit on my laptop (Intel Core Duo, 4g of DDR2), W7 RC x64 on my Multi-Media computer (Intel Q6600, 4g DDR2), and as yet, havn't plucked up the courage to install it on my main computer (Intel Q8200, 8g DDR3, 2 x Radeon 4870 with 1gig of ram each), opting to keep running XP Pro x64.
The two computers running W7 are running beautifully, and after a few set up hassles, the network is finally up and running as it should be. I'll install W7 x64 on my main computer when the RTM version comes out in October I think. I'll use another primary hard drive for that task so I can keep the current one handy to swap out if I find I have any problems.

Installed Windows 7 Professional (Released version not RC) on a Toshiba L300 Laptop which has 3 GB of Ram and it runs quite well. One initial problem was that it wouldn't connect to my main XP Pro PC or the Printer attached thereto a bit of searching revealed that the problem was with XP and a Registry modification fixed this quickly. Going to invest in a 500GB or 1 TB HDD shortly amongst other things this will give me enough space for a full system back up of my main HDD. I might then undertake the laborious task of going to W7. Since XP to 7 won't go I'll try XP Pro to Vista Business then Vista Business to W7 Professional.

As some of you know I am just in the process of specifying a new video edit PC but am holding off. The systems I have been looking at all come with Vista 64 bit....I am going to wait until W7. I know they are offering a free upgrade but I don;t really want Vista anywhere near my new system. (Never liked the upgrade router anyway)

I have just rebuilt my Dell Latitude D520 laptop to provide a dual boot system. I partitioned the 80Gb hard drive into 2 x 30Gb and 1 * 15Gb.
I installed XP on 1st partition which went OK then updated to SP3 then I had problems as I didn’t have the Dell drivers, Couldn’t get on Internet as needed the Network drivers. Managed to find the network driver on a DVD I have with a full set of XP drivers, but then still needed to others for sound graphics , wireless and others. Got on Internet and managed to find all the drivers for Dell.
Then loaded the Win 7 DVD and installed on the 2nd 30Gb partition. Within a very short time everything was working OK Reported Wireless connection available and after input of network key I was on-line. All drivers were present and I was asked to Activate on-line which I did. No missing drivers everything was 100% (build 7100 version)
The Laptop belongs to a computer club and is used to demonstrate various software, so I needed to install all applications etc under XP and Win 7.
The following installed without any problems Avast A/V, Office 2003, Office 2007 Addon for Office 2003, Avery Labels Wizard for Office 2003, Photoshop Elements, Irfanview, Revo uninstaller, BBC Iplayer desktop, Google Earth, Google Chrome, Firefox, Bing Maps 3D, Nero 7 Ultra, Legacy 7 Family History, Parish Locator, Skype, Full set of Windows Live applications (mail, messenger etc) , VLC Media player, Belarc Advisor correctly reported missing updates for Win 7. Brother DCP 340CW Network printer needed the Vista version of its drivers but otherwise works 100%
Win 7 seems to be very slick, much faster for booting and loading programs. Managed to network OK to an XP PC sharing files and folders. Had to go into the Computer Properties to set the Workgroup to MSHOME which is what all my other PCs are set to.
The only program that I couldn’t install was Diskeeper which I run under XP but was incompatible with Win 7.

Thanks John for the Info, Just a warning SuperAntispyware causes Win 7 to Fail with Blue Screen. Seemed to install OK but when came to run got blue screen with lots of white dots which presumably was an error message but it was unreadable

SAS wont work with W7 and will cause BSODS. Kev (Nike) has written to SAS about it, but I dont think he ever got a reply. I ran it on W7 BETA x 64 and it didnt crash the machine, but it caused other trouble after a short while. C Cleaner gets rid of all the cookie, tracking and otherwise if you use that and MBAM will get rid of anything worse than a tracking cookie.

Just a clarification on SAS. I have it running well on W7 RC x64, but it just won't install on the 32 bit version, and BSOD's all over the place. As KC said, I have contacted SAS on numerous occasions about the problem, but to date, have not received a reply.
