Re: Windows 7: How to upgrade your computer « Reply #8 24th October at 4:15pm
I have bought the new windows 7 and had this in my study for several days now but cant find the confidence or the willpower to install, as I have been told to back up my files I have an ext drive but I dont know about partitioning on my hard drive or my ext h.d. and would appreciate any help I can get please. I can disconnect my ext h.d. that will surely save my pics but I am using photoshop and I cant do without it. I tried to back this up on my ext drive but it wouldnt allow me to do this! tia Ann

You can't backup programs, not without cloning the whole drive anyway. A windows.old folder will be created containing all your files, but it's only the data you can re-use. You don't need to worry about partitioning, an upgrade will use the same Windows drive. The upgrade will attempt to keep your programs, but only if they're on the compatibility list as known to work with '7' I take it you don't have the install media for Photoshop? Photoshop Elements is supposed to contain most of Photoshop features - with just the professional printing options missing that most home users wouldn't miss. It's reasonably cheap compared to the full 'pro' package www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Photoshop-Elements-PC-DVD/dp/B002OB5G6G/ref=dp_ob_title_swIt's probably a much newer version than you were previously using too
