Judging by the sky this morning, I would need to be flying at 20,000 feet to see anything John. Its been raining since before 06.00 and dont look likes its got any plans to stop.

John - thanks for this, I will take a look tonight, I love anything to do with Earth's natural phenomena and of course space research.

I hope so too John. I was in Golfito Costa Rica for the 1991 total eclipse and that was spectacular. I was in New Romney for the 1999 eclipse and that was great. We had clearer skies than the experts who all went to Cornwall. I have got some photos somewhere, that I took of the space station on its last passover before it bumped into Oz. My camera is all ready, but I dont think much of my chances for tonight.

John, where do you get the hourly weather from? I just use BBC weather or the Met Office.

I use a Yahoo Widgets in Windows 7 (also for XP / Vista) and my Weather Widget is AccuWeather (if i click the + it takes me to the main site and gives me the Weather for my location) and its free > > widgets.yahoo.com/And this is the Weather Widget next to the Clock You need to install the Widget (Dock) first then you can add Widgets.

We look like having cloudy skies as well, but it might change.

I sat in the garden last night until about 2.30 am and saw about a dozen one of which was the biggest I have ever seen. It shot across the horizon from east to west and lasted the whole width of the sky. After it had passed it left a trail that was still visible for a good few seconds where it had burnt through the atmosphere.
Great fun

Although theres a lot of big black clouds around, they are a lot more broken up now. There might be enough sky in 3 or 4 hours time to see something. I've got no view of the eastern sky living on the side of a steep hill with houses above me. I will probably only see big stuff, if there is any to make it to make it to the western sky.

Cloud breaking up over London Bridge but even on a clear night with all the city lights be lucky to see anything. I'll head for the roof after midnight for an hour anyway.

Haven't even seen a star yet. There must be a lot of high cloud, as I can see the low cloud. There was a huge gap just now and I should have been able to see the North Star, but it wasn't there. Unless they are building an intergalactic super highway, something must be hiding it.

Dawn is breaking on an almost clear blue sky. I have seen several light shows since 03.55, but they were all coming from planes out of East Midlands airport.

I don't think I have seen an owl around here John, so one of them would make a nice change. I did used to have a vixen drop by at night for some grub. She used to travel miles at night looking for food, when she had cubs. The council stopped me feeding the birds, they said I was encouraging vermin. An ironic thing to say to someone who kept rats as pets. My Eric
